The first weekend of August, my husband and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary (and 14 years!) by escaping to the Catskills for The Soiree on the Railway put on by the charming And North collective. We made a weekend of it, arriving at the Arts and Crafts style Deer Mountain Inn in Tannersville, NY Friday evening, where we were served an incredible dinner.

We spent Saturday morning leisurely exploring the lovely grounds and gardens. Originally a summer cottage for the Colgate family in the 1880’s, the Deer Mountain Inn has all of the cozy historic charm of the Catskills, with the service and culinary delight you’d expect to find in NYC.

The area has much to offer ranging from alluring architecture to stunning nature, all within close proximity! We hiked trails and saw Kaaterskill Falls, the tallest 2 drop waterfall in New York State, and ate delicious sandwiches in a sweet General Store setting at Bovina Circle W Market.

The Soiree on the Railway was And North’s first of what may become an annual event, “a lavish gathering to honor the bygone glamour of train travel to the Catskills’ famed resorts” benefiting the Catskill Center.
The Delaware Ulster Railroad, our venue for the evening
Wandering between the dining and open air cars on the Delaware Ulster Railroad as the spectacular Catskills scenery and electric sky rolled by, we sipped champagne and dined on suckling pig, prime rib, balsamic mushrooms, salted potatoes, and more. It was simply magical.
