Chelsea Flower Market

By Patricia Cassidy

Lately, I find myself shopping for flowers at the Chelsea Flower Market for various reasons. Between photo shoots, events at the office, and putting the final touches on a home, I am constantly shopping and styling new arrangements. I often find myself browsing at the flower market, looking for the best that the season has to offer. Luckily, I am a morning person, so getting to the flower market at 6 AM is somewhat enjoyable.

Below are some tricks I’ve learned along the way.

Get there early! You’ll have the first pick of the daily supply.

Get to know your favorite spots. Like anything else, some places are better than others. One of IKB’s personal favorites is the Dutch Flower Line, Inc.

For the early mornings stop by Little Taste Café. For those of you who are not morning people, ask for their iced coffee. It absolutely packs an extra punch!

Be willing to roll with it! Sometimes you hit snooze one too many times, sometimes the shop doesn’t have what you are looking for or what they have doesn’t look so hot. Try to go in with an open mind.

Pro tip! If you are interested in this kind of stuff, keep your eyes and ears open for class opportunities with your favorite floral designers.

If you are traveling for a photo shoot keep your flowers in water! Same goes for when we are shooting or styling for the office. Take large containers and fill them with water while you create. Always make fresh cuts to the flowers before putting them in an arrangement. It will help the flowers last longer!
